Description Dubai Metro
Challenge The Dubai Metro is the longest automated, driverless railway in the world

The Dubai Metro opened in September 2009 and is the longest automated, driverless railway in the world. The Red Line, now open, is 52 km long with 29 stations, four of which are underground. The 23km Green Line is still under construction. Brand Energy supplied special steel formwork for the construction of the station support piers on type 2 and 3 stations (32 stations in all). Single concrete pours of up to 11 m³ were required, placing huge design loads on the formwork. In addition to the formwork, we supplied a range of access products for the fitting out and finishing of the remaining stations – including the one at Dubai Airport Terminal 1.

We provided a comprehensive access package during the completion and fitting out of the Terminal 1 Metro station. This included the design and installation of high level scaffolding structures giving access to the underside of the distinctive curved roof, incorporating side walkways using 5 m ladder beam spans as well as the construction of a working platform spanning 8 m across the live rail lines. Equipment supplied includes ladder beams, CUPLOK® system scaffolding and tube and fittings. Various other scaffold access towers and mobile aluminium towers were employed to provide access to a range of trades during the fitting out and finishing of the high specification interiors. We also supplied support for a temporary pedestrian bridge linking the Metro to the airport terminal and car parks involving back-propping below the elevated access road using scaffolding and soldier towers.
